Who We Serve

The Sons of Sacrifice training program is for men with same-sex attraction who want to keep their covenants with God, especially of a sexual nature, and remain active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  

  • Single men
  • Returned missionaries
  • Men married to women who have attractions to men
  • Men who aren’t sure they have same-sex attraction, or are still trying to sort out their attractions.
  • Young men preparing to serve missions (must be 18)
  • Older men who need support to stay in their covenants
  • Men who have left the Church, but wonder if there is a way back
  • Any other men who wishes to attend

 

Sons of Sacrifice believes all men are beautiful as God created them, but that Satan tempts all men to behave outside their belief systems and personal goals.

We are NOT reparative therapy, shame-based, or anti-gay.

Confidentiality

All meetings begin with an agreement of confidentiality, and we end each meeting with a promise of mutual support. We take confidentiality very seriously. No one is to share the names or details of who attends the meetings, what they say, or anything that can be used to identify any individual in the group.

Camaraderie and Support

Sons of Sacrifice includes men with a variety of experiences, ages, education levels, and backgrounds, who all understand the challenges of being attracted to men and being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. No judgments, no shame, no expectations, no agenda, only understanding and love.

Gospel-centered

Principles taught include gospel-based methods based on scripture and teachings of apostles and prophets for recovery from pornography addiction and unwanted sexual behaviors. We bring God into the recovery process. Spiritual truths are combined with behavioral tools to help you succeed for a lifetime.

Sexually Affirming

Sexuality is beautiful and natural in whatever form God has let it happen in our lives. In general we don’t worry about the why or how or what about each man’s individual combination of attractions. We acknowledge that attractions to the same gender are real - we stop hating ourselves for having them.

Behavior Elimination

Learn skills to align your actions with your beliefs and eliminate behaviors that violate your moral standards. Sons of Sacrifice teaches tools and methods that have been used successfully by thousands to stop addictive activities and build new habits for success. These tools don’t focus on attractions, but on behaviors.

Learn Discernment Skills

Acquiring discernment skills is essential to self-mastery: understanding where, when, how you are tempted and analyzing "lost battles" can help you win in the future. You will receive specific training to gain new discernment skills you can use in every aspect of your life, including sexual self-mastery.

Program Details

How it Works

Sons of Sacrifice are groups of same-sex attracted men working to help each other overcome pornography addiction or any other unwanted sexual behaviors, and still live lives of joy that honor our same-sex attracted natures.

This is a pornography and sexual addiction recovery program for LDS men combining modern psychological tools and strategies with gospel-centered learning and teachings. The program is based on the principles by Maurice Harker in the book Like Dragons Did They Fight. 

We teach tools and methods to overcome pornography challenges and eliminate other unwanted sexual behaviors.

The Sons of Sacrifice believe we can stay on the covenant path, keep our behavior within the limits established by God, and still live lives of joy that honor our gay, bisexual, queer, or same-sex attracted natures.

Online groups available for men to participate anywhere they live. Trained mentors are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who also experience SSA.

*Sons of Sacrifice makes no judgement of LGBTQ people, the choices they make, or how they live their lives. We do not believe being attracted to the same gender is evil, nor that it is caused by pornography use, nor that is it “of the devil.” We are proud to be gay sons of God. We also support self-determination in choosing behaviors consistent with individual beliefs, choices, and the covenants we make with God. This program does NOT address attractions to men, is not “reparative therapy,” makes no claims about “healing” homosexuality, nor does it force men to make changes against their will.
